The network of the forest
Like many people these days, I listen to a lot of podcasts. A regular favourite is RadioLab, (if you haven't do yourself a favour), but one particular episode really stands out for me - From tree to shining tree. As someone who loves growing things and would like to see a more harmonious relationship between humans and our environment this really struck a chord.
Professor of forest ecology at the University of British Colombia, Suzanne Simard's findings that trees not only communicate in a forest but also trade resources and protect each other is something to consider. As well as the brilliant podcast episode, you can also watch her great Ted talk.
